Real Software Solutions started from the inside of the work, not from outside looking in. Its founder is a practising building surveyor, subcontracted through their own surveying company into social housing work — stock condition inspections, void surveys, capital works — and separately runs a construction business carrying out void repairs as a subcontractor.
Doing that work day to day meant living with the same problem from both sides: a stock condition survey logged one way, a repair priced against a schedule of rates in a different system, and a damp & mould inspection tracked somewhere else again — with no single record tying a property's history together, and no easy way to prove a compliance deadline had actually been met.
Real Software Solutions is the tool that was missing: one platform for all three survey types, built by someone who has filled in the paper forms and chased the spreadsheets, not just designed around them.
Awaab's Law came into force for the social rented sector on 27 October 2025, putting hard deadlines and evidence requirements around damp and mould hazards for the first time. The National Housing Federation and RICS are separately working on a standardised stock condition survey for the whole sector.
The sector is moving toward more consistent, better-evidenced surveying right as most organisations are still running it on paper and spreadsheets. That gap is the opportunity — and the reason the timing made sense to build this now rather than later.
